Design and engineering for federal digital services

The interface layer, designed and built by one team.

Design systems, production front-end code, and the research that decides what to build. Periphera works inside your codebase and your review process, so what ships is what was designed. Available to primes as a subcontractor and to agencies on direct awards.

Capabilities

Six things we do well.

A narrow, connected set of services. Each one feeds the next, from research to system to shipped component.

  1. Design systems

Component libraries built, documented, and governed so they hold up release after release. Our background is maintaining parity across hundreds of component variations on web, iOS, and Android in a library held to WCAG 2.1 AA.

  2. Front-end engineering

React, Angular, TypeScript, HTML and CSS. API-integrated interface components delivered in Agile cycles, in your repository, through your review process.

  3. Product design

Interface design, prototypes, and specifications that hand off as working components. The same people design and build, so the spec and the code do not drift apart.

  4. User research and usability testing

Contextual inquiry, task-based usability testing, and research synthesis, including sessions with screen-reader and keyboard-only participants.

  5. Accessibility optimization and audits

WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 review of digital properties with findings mapped to success criteria, then component-level fixes in the codebase: keyboard behavior, focus, semantics, contrast. We ship the fix, not just the finding.

  6. Team training

Practical sessions for design, development, and content staff on standards, tooling, and testing method, tailored to the systems the team already uses.

How we work

Start with the system. Finish in the codebase.

Most interface problems are system problems: components that drifted, specs nobody kept, patterns rebuilt five ways. We fix the system so the fix reaches every screen.

  1. Understand what exists

Inventory the components, the design files, and the code that renders them. Talk to the people who use the product. Decide what to keep, merge, or rebuild.

  2. Build in your repository

Design and code move together. Work lands as pull requests through your review process, with documentation and tests alongside.

  3. Leave it maintainable

Governance, contribution guides, and training so the team can extend the system after we leave. Standards conformance is checked along the way, not bolted on at the end.

Contracting

Easy to buy. Easy to add to a team.

For primes and small business liaison officers

  • SDVOSB credit toward your subcontracting-plan goals under FAR 19.704.
  • A defined scope you can carve out: design system work, front-end components, research, accessibility review.
  • Design and engineering from one team, so there is no hand-off inside the sub.
  • NDA-ready. Direct line to the people doing the work. No intake form.

About

A small firm with an enterprise design-system background.

Periphera builds and maintains the interface layer of digital services: the design system, the front-end code, and the research that decides what to build. Our practice was formed over seven years inside a Fortune 500 financial firm, running an enterprise design system across web, iOS, and Android and shipping production components in React and Angular, in an environment where accessibility conformance was examined, not assumed.

We work as one team from design through code. That is the point: fewer hand-offs, fewer drifts between the mockup and the product, and components that stay maintainable after we leave.

Periphera is a service-disabled veteran-owned business based in Texas, founded by an Air Force veteran with a background in communication design and human-computer interaction.

Where the practice comes from

  • Enterprise design system
Seven years maintaining a component library across web, iOS, and Android, held to WCAG 2.1 AA.
  • Production front-end
API-integrated Angular and React components shipped through enterprise review in a regulated environment.
  • Research that moved metrics
Contextual research on an onboarding redesign that contributed to an efficiency improvement of more than 40 percent.
  • Credentials
WCAG 2.2 certification. MS in Human-Computer Interaction in progress. BFA in Communication Design.

Research

A second line: semantic compression for sensor links.

Peripheral Technologies also develops a training-free semantic codec for bandwidth- and power-constrained sensor links. Instead of reconstructing every bit, the codec transmits the task-relevant meaning a decision system needs. Validated on 100+ datasets across acoustic, biomedical, industrial, and environmental signals, with a zero-malloc C11 implementation running on Cortex-M hardware and live sub-GHz LoRa transmission. Currently at TRL 4. We pursue this work through SBIR/STTR and DoD research channels. Technical details available under NDA.

Research page: outcomes, readiness, and how to engage.

  • Longer battery life on sensor nodes
  • Graceful degradation under jamming and packet loss
  • One codec across six sensor families
  • No training data required
  • Reference Python and byte-identical C
